Het Molenaar Racing team heeft een succesvolle eerste voorjaarstraining afgerond. Coureurs Thom Molenaar en Sven Doornenbal maakten met de KTM RC390’s in Arie Molenaar Motors/Nutec kleuren hun eerste meters op het Spaanse Motorland Aragon.
2021 begon zonder teamvoorstellingen of motorbeurzen, maar de voorbereidingen op het nieuwe seizoen gingen achter de schermen onverminderd door. De eerste voorjaarstraining op het programma stond gepland van 14 tot 16 maart op Motorland Aragon, een circuit dat nieuw was voor beide coureurs. Onder droge weersomstandigheden maar met een sterke wind leerden Molenaar en Doornenbal de eerste dag de baan kennen. Ook de dagen erna waren zonnig en al bleef de harde wind een feit, beide coureurs maakten veel progressie en verbeterden telkens hun rondetijden.
Molenaar werd flink uitgedaagd door het circuit met de vele hoogteverschillen. “Het is een baan die mijn zwakke punten benadrukt, er was dus flink werk aan de winkel! Al met al zeer leerzame dagen.”
Doornenbal ziet ondanks de gemaakte progressie nog ruimte voor verbeteringen. “Ik heb wel progressie laten zien maar ben blij dat er deze week nog een paar testdagen volgen om op tempo te komen voor het IDM.”
Het team reist door naar het Spaanse Alcarras, waar de volgende testdagen plaats zullen vinden. In de tussentijd wordt er onder begeleiding van rijderscoach Leon Bovee hard aan de conditie gewerkt. In Alcarraz zal nog eens drie dagen worden getest, waarna het team weer terug zal keren naar Nederland en er nog een door de KNMV georganiseerde training voor licentiehouders op het TT Circuit van Assen op het programma staat. Eind april vangt dan het IDM Supersport300 kampioenschap aan in het Duitse Lausitz.
First pre season test in Spain for Molenaar Racing Team
Molenaar Racing team has completed a successful first training session of 2021. Drivers Thom Molenaar and Sven Doornenbal had their first ride on the Spanish Motorland Aragon with the Arie Molenaar Motors/Nutec KTM RC390’s.
2021 started without team introductions or fairs, but preparations for the new season continued behind the scenes. The first pre season test was scheduled from March 14th-16th at Motorland Aragon, an unknown track for both drivers. Under sunny weather conditions but with a strong wind, Molenaar and Doornenbal got to know the track on the first day. The days after were sunny as well and although the strong wind remained, both drivers made a lot of progress and improved their lap times each time.
Molenaar was seriously challenged by the track which is famous for it’s many height differences. “It is a track that highlights my weaknesses, so there was a lot of work to be done! All in all very educational days. ”
Despite the progress made, Doornenbal still sees room for improvements. “I have shown progress, but I am glad with a few more test days coming up later this week, to be on pace for the IDM in time.”
The team will travel to Alcarraz, Spain, where they will continu their pre season testing. In the meantime, the physical condition is worked on under the guidance of rider coach Leon Bovee. A further three days of testing will take place in Alcarras, after which the team will return to the Netherlands and later this month, a training course organized by the KNMV at the TT Track in Assen is scheduled. At the end of April, the IDM Supersport300 Championship starts in Lausitz, Germany.
